Groups

Groups let you organize devices into logical collections for targeted deployments. When you assign an app to a group, every device in that group receives the deployment.

Creating a Group

  1. Go to Groups in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create Group.
  3. Enter a name (e.g., "Engineering Workstations", "Finance Department", "Pilot Ring").
  4. To make the group dynamic, turn on Dynamic group and add one or more rules. You no longer need to create the group first and add rules afterwards.
  5. Click Create. A dynamic group is populated immediately and the confirmation tells you how many devices matched.

Group Details

Click any group row to open its detail page.

Managing Devices

Click Add Device to assign a device to the group. Search for devices by hostname. Any apps assigned to this group will be queued for deployment on the new device.

Click the remove button next to a device to remove it from the group. Removing a device does not uninstall apps previously deployed through the group.

Managing Assignments

The group detail page shows all app assignments. Click Create Assignment to add a new one - select an app and choose the intent (Install, Uninstall, or Update Only).

Delete an assignment by clicking the delete button next to it. In-progress jobs are not affected.

Exporting Devices to CSV

Click Export CSV on a group's detail page to download its members as a spreadsheet. Dynamic groups make this a quick report: build the rules once, then export whenever you need the current list. Choose the columns to include from the device record (identity, OS and update state, hardware and network inventory, and every custom field). Dates are UTC and your column choice is remembered for next time.

Group Rules

Groups can optionally have rules that automatically determine membership based on OS version or other device attributes. Enable or disable rules with the toggle.

Deleting a Group

Click the trash icon on a group row and confirm. Deleting a group also removes all its assignments. Devices in the group are not deleted.

Tips

  • Create groups that reflect how you want to target deployments - by department, location, device type, or deployment ring.
  • A device can belong to multiple groups.
  • Adding a device to a group with existing assignments will automatically create deployment jobs for that device.
