Assignments

Assignments connect apps to device groups. When you create an assignment, Pckgr generates deployment jobs for every device in the target group.

Creating an Assignment

  1. Go to Assignments in the sidebar (or from a group or app detail page).
  2. Click Create Assignment.
  3. Select a group - Choose the target device group from the dropdown. The dropdown shows the number of devices in each group.
  4. Select an app - Choose the application to deploy.
  5. Select an intent:
    • Install - Install the app on all devices in the group.
    • Uninstall - Uninstall the app from all devices in the group.
  6. Click Create.

Pckgr immediately creates deployment jobs for all devices in the group.

Deleting an Assignment

Click the trash icon on an assignment row and confirm. Deleting an assignment does not cancel jobs that are already in progress.

Bulk Operations

Select multiple assignments using the checkboxes, then click Delete in the action bar to remove them all at once.

Excluding Groups

An assignment can leave out one or more groups. A device in an excluded group is skipped even when it is also in the assigned group, so a baseline assigned to All Devices can skip a handful of devices without a second group being created just to hold them.

  • When creating an assignment, tick the groups to leave out under Exclude groups.
  • To change the exclusions later, click the assignment on the app's detail page. Devices that stop being excluded get their deployment jobs straight away; devices that become excluded have their queued jobs cancelled.
  • Exclusions apply per assignment, so excluding a group from an Install assignment does not stop it from seeing the app as Available through another assignment.
  • The All Devices group cannot be excluded, and a group cannot be excluded from its own assignment.

How Assignments Work

  • When you create an assignment, a job is created for each device currently in the group, minus any device in an excluded group.
  • If you later add a new device to the group, Pckgr automatically creates jobs for any existing assignments that reach it.
  • If a device later joins an excluded group, the assignment stops applying to it: pending jobs are cancelled when the agent next asks for work.
  • If an app has dependencies, those prerequisite apps are deployed first.
  • Failed jobs can be retried from the Deployments page.
