Managing Devices
The Devices page shows all Windows and macOS devices enrolled in your Pckgr environment. Devices appear here automatically after the agent is installed and enrolled.

Device Details
Click any device row to open its detail page. Under the device name, a context row shows platform, connection, status, last seen and the groups the device belongs to. A health strip summarises Compliance, Updates, Security, Encryption and Inventory, and each tile opens the tab with the detail. The rest of the page is tabbed: Overview, Apps, Security, Updates, Policies and Jobs, with the selected tab kept in the URL so it can be linked directly. The sections below describe what each tab includes:
System Information
Hostname, OS version, agent version, enrollment date, last check-in time, serial number, and Windows Update status. If device naming is enabled, also shows the assigned name, rename status, and any error details.
Group Membership
Lists all groups the device belongs to. Click Add to Group to assign the device to a group, or remove it from existing groups.
Detected Applications
Lists software detected on the device (from Programs & Features). Searchable by name.
Remote Desktop
Click Remote to start a remote desktop session and view or control the device directly from your browser.
Job History
Recent deployment jobs for this device, showing status, intent, app name, and duration. Click a job to view full details and logs.
Device Actions
Force Check-in
Click the play button on a device row, or Check in on the device page, to request an immediate check-in. A Windows device on the current agent is told straight away over its live connection and checks in within seconds, refreshing its compliance, installed apps, Windows Update status and hardware inventory; the device page waits for the response and reloads with what the device reported. A device that is offline, on an older agent, or running macOS picks the request up on its next scheduled check-in (about every 5 minutes) and then picks up any pending jobs.
Delete a Device
Click the trash icon and confirm. This permanently removes the device and all its associated jobs.
Device Naming
When device naming is enabled in tenant settings, newly enrolled devices are automatically renamed using a template you define (e.g., ACME-{Counter:4} produces ACME-0001, ACME-0002, etc.).
How It Works
- Configure a naming template in Settings > Device Naming.
- A device enrolls with the Pckgr agent.
- The API generates the next name from the template and assigns it.
- The agent receives a rename command and runs Rename-Computer on the device.
- A toast notification informs the end user that a restart is required.
- After restarting, the device reports back with the new hostname.
Rename Status
Devices with an assigned name show a status badge in the device list:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Renaming | The rename command has been sent; waiting for the agent to execute and reboot |
| Completed | The device has been successfully renamed |
| Rename failed | The rename failed - click Retry on the device detail page to try again |
Important Notes
- The rename requires a restart to take effect. The agent does not automatically reboot the device.
- The naming template only applies to newly enrolled devices. Existing devices are not retroactively renamed.
- Generated names are limited to 15 characters (Windows NetBIOS limit).
- You can skip renaming for individual devices during enrollment by checking "Skip automatic device renaming" in the installer, passing
SKIP_RENAME=1for silent installs, or using--skip-renamewith the CLI. See Skipping Device Rename for details.
Bulk Operations
Select multiple devices using the checkboxes, then use the action bar at the bottom of the page:
- Force check-in - Request immediate check-in for all selected devices. Connected Windows devices are woken straight away and refresh compliance and installed apps; the Windows Update and hardware rescan is reserved for the single-device Check in so a large selection does not rescan all at once
- Delete - Remove all selected devices and their associated data
